University of Cape Town is ready to scout 300 new staff members for it’s new online high school

Educators and policymakers all over the world are in urgent need of change, including those in South Africa.

This is even more relevant after the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected the education sector here.

It was so bad that discussions among educators reported that a whole generation of learners had been lost, with grade three students being told that they learned the same as grade two students around the same time in the previous year.

Teachers, parents, and students were struggling to figure out how to make everything go smoothly and normally during school terms when more and more schools were forced to move learning online for some time during the school year.

Valenture Institute, a Cape Town-based provider of education technology, and the University of Cape Town joined forces to deliver a revolutionary education offering.

A first-of-its-kind online high school was developed jointly by the two companies, and has garnered a great deal of interest across a variety of South Africa’s cities and towns as well as across the African continent at large.

5000 students have already applied to the school, which opens in January 2022, and interest is increasing:

“Learners will benefit from the UCT Online High School’s supported self-discipline model, which allows learners to pace their own learning and get high quality 1:1 tutoring from expert teachers and support coaches whenever they need it.

Learners will also be prepared with a unique range of university and career preparation services and offerings.”

Several hundred new staff members are currently being hired by the Valenture Institute and UCT Online High School across South Africa. These individuals include teachers, mentors, and learning coaches, as well as teaching assistants, software developers, content creators and learning designers.

As UCT aims to distribute its expertise and impact to the secondary schooling market through online methods, this will really help the university establish itself as a global leader. Recruitment for all open positions is currently underway here online.

Additionally, there are some pretty decent benefits with the positions:

“A host of work benefits are offered to Valenture Institute & UCT Online High School employees, such as a tuition discount for family members, remote work, a gift saving programme, birthday leave, wellness Wednesday meditation sessions, and referral bonuses.”
