The story in front of you

Answer for how things are today. Runs in your browser. Nothing is sent.

The source

Does the story say where the information came from?

Is the source someone in a position to know, such as the artist, their team or a named witness?

Can you find the original post, interview or statement the story is based on?

Does the outlet publish corrections when it gets a story wrong?

The claim

Does the story say whether the claim is confirmed, reported or rumoured?

Does the headline match what the story underneath actually says?

Is the story current, rather than an old one going round again?

Does it avoid unverified claims about private people who are not public figures?

The evidence

Do the photos or videos come from the event the story describes?

Has the artist, their team or their label responded, or been asked to?

Have other outlets confirmed it with their own sources, rather than copying one another?

Before you share

Does every screenshot in the story link to where it came from?

Would the story still stand with the rumoured parts taken out?

If you forward it, will you make clear what is confirmed and what is not?

Answer the questions to see your score. It updates as you go.

Method: yes scores a question in full, partly scores half and no scores nothing. Each question is weighted from one to three by how much it tells you about where the story came from, and the score is the weighted share, as a percentage. Unanswered questions are left out.
